I used to have so many friends around me. We’d meet up, chat, drink coffee, and share drinks, enjoying lively times with many people. But after my major injury, many of those connections have faded or been lost. As time passed and I wasn’t the same as before, friends naturally drifted away. Honestly, it’s upsetting, but I also believe this period was necessary to truly identify my genuine friends.
One person, in particular, sticks in my mind. Even before my injury, this friend would often reach out to meet, and I tried several times to make time. However, I often used being busy as an excuse, not answering calls properly or postponing our plans. I was involved with many people through work, and it was hard to find time to meet that friend amidst my packed schedule.
There was a time when I was under extreme stress due to an excessive workload. My head would ache intensely, feeling like it would burst, multiple times. But I just dismissed it as an ordinary headache, not giving it much thought. Shortly after, I suffered my major injury. And since then, I haven’t been able to meet that friend. It’s frustrating and regrettable that I couldn’t communicate properly with them. I wanted to talk about so many things—money, time, effort—but I couldn’t convey them effectively, which was disheartening.
I tried many times to reach out to that friend first and explain things properly. But each attempt failed, and eventually, I decided not to contact them anymore. Still, there are words I want to say to that friend in my heart. I want to tell them that I’ve lived diligently and that they’ve worked hard. And I want to tell them that my injury wasn’t their fault or anyone else’s, but solely my own issue. Fundamentally, this happened because I didn’t manage my stress properly. Therefore, I believe everything is my fault. If anyone suffered harm or inconvenience because of me, I am truly sorry.
