I kept telling my wife and my mother:
“I want to leave the hospital.”
So, eventually, I went home.
To be honest,
it wasn’t the best decision.
Looking back now,
it would have been better to stay longer at the hospital,
to receive more care and support.
At the time, I just wanted to go home.
Not because I hated the hospital,
but because I simply missed home.
I thought everything was over,
that I was okay now.
At home,
I tried to go back to the things I used to do.
I tried to organize some tasks,
and I thought about what I should do next.
Even though I couldn’t speak well,
the only thought in my heart was:
“I have to do something.”
I didn’t know what kind of work I should do,
or how to do it,
but I wanted to do something—anything.
I had to.
So now,
I’m trying to start again with small things.
When I was told I could leave the hospital soon,
I felt happy.
“I think I can do this now.”
That’s what I wanted to believe.
To all the doctors and staff at the hospital—
thank you.
And to myself—
thank you, too.
For holding on,
for trying to get better,
thank you.
Now,
I just want to do better.
