While I’m home, people often contact me. I could go meet them, but then my wife would have to come along. I think it’s something I can do on my own, but my parents come to watch, or my wife has to record my condition and stay by my side. I believe I can manage by myself, but I realize that’s not the reality. Even lifting a coffee cup isn’t easy; I could spill it if I’m not careful. It’s strange. I can’t believe even such a simple action doesn’t work properly. It’s absurd.
When people visit to say hello, when friends express their relief, and especially when they offer money, I’m truly grateful. On the other hand, I also think, “Why should I receive this money?” or “I’m not dead, so why are they giving me money?” I’m thankful, but I strongly wish I could return it. However, my wife told me to accept it with an open heart, considering the great pain I’ve endured and the feelings of our family.
It’s good to see that people are consistently reaching out, even if just a little. The warm hearts of those who haven’t forgotten me and come to visit are a great comfort. They are becoming the driving force that allows me to endure this difficult time.
