I was quite a good cyclist once. It was when I worked at a company near Sinsa Station, and I would ride my bike from home to work. It was about a 45-minute ride, which was perfect. So I would get ready a little earlier than others, stop by a gym near the office to shower, and then go to work. I don’t particularly like working out, but I used the gym because I had nowhere to shower in the mornings. It felt a bit wasteful, though.
I’ve always liked sports. I especially loved soccer and enjoyed almost all sports like baseball, badminton, and golf. Then one day, I wanted to ride a bike with my children. I used to really like cycling, and I was curious if I could ride a bike again after my injury. With a pounding heart, I got on the bike and rode a little. I knew right away.
“Oh, right. It feels just like my body. It’s good.”
After riding around my neighborhood a few times, I was confident that I could do it. My mind felt much more at ease.
Now I was ready to ride with my children. It felt so good. I felt as if I had become a person again. Riding a bike with my children was so happy.
The distance was a total of 30 kilometers round trip. I rode about 15 kilometers on the way there and 30 kilometers in total on the way back. Yes, it was really hard. But it felt so good. My son was by my side, giving me strength, and riding together like this brought great joy to my life.
I felt that I was alive. I was so grateful to my sons for helping me. I want to ride a bike again. I want to ride again. It was a truly happy time.
